How do you make more of your work and get it into people’s hands, while preserving what makes it yours? How do you know when it’s time to work with a factory vs. make everything yourself? What are factories in China like? Should you even manufacture your art?

Join Danielle Baskin and Taylor Tabb for a conversation about manufacturing in China and how it fits into an independent creative practice.

We’re showcasing some of our past artworks that have involved manufacturing and walking through the journey from initial ideas to production runs, finding and communicating with factories, ordering specialty parts and machines, navigating samples and costs, and communicating the vision.

We’ll also discuss how we figured out how to distribute and sell artwork we’ve made (or if we even should), and ways to help you make similar decisions.

While “mass manufacturing” might seem at odds with your creative practice or notion of craftsmanship, we’ll explore how bridging these worlds might strengthen your work.

This program is designed for artists, tinkerers, and creatives who want to explore making their work in greater quantities or are curious about what factories can make possible. While founders and employed hardware engineers and designers with existing plans to scale products are welcome, our focus is on the experience and needs of independent artists.
