Post Generation brings together three artists to transform an archive from early generative AI testing into new works of textile, media, and performance.

Bringing together textile artist Hayley Mortin (Montréal), media artist Karyn Nakamura (NYC), and performance artist Zelia ZZ Tan (LA), the exhibition presents three distinct interpretations of early AI’s strange, unstable, and unexpected outputs.

Created with support from Google, the artists were invited to draw from an extensive archive of videos produced during the testing of early Veo models. As generative video becomes increasingly polished, Post Generation looks back at the imaginative artifacts left behind and asks what new meanings artists might uncover within them.

Hayley Mortin is a Montréal-based researcher and artist whose work connects human-centered AI, textile production, and independent publishing. She is a Staff UX Researcher specializing in AI, the founder of experimental knitwear project Dazy Chains, and the founding editor of Needlebound, an anthology documenting contemporary fibre culture.

Zelia ZZ Tan is a Los Angeles– and Hong Kong–based choreographer, director, media artist, and researcher exploring how bodies relate to technology and their environments through performance, motion capture, XR, and participatory systems. She is the co-founder of TechDanceLab, an Asian Cultura...
